Minutes with Mary

The Quiet Question

Sitting on the train, alone, Mary suddenly feels lonely and begins to wonder if she made the right decision.
Mary sitting by a train window, looking out at the passing landscape with a thoughtful and slightly uncertain expression

The train moves steadily down the track.

Fields pass by. Telephone poles rise and fall in a quiet rhythm. A distant town appears, then slowly fades behind her.

Mary watches it all from her seat by the window.

This is what she wanted.

A journey of her own.

A chance to see something new.

A step forward.

But somewhere between one mile and the next, a thought begins to form. It doesn’t arrive all at once.

It comes quietly.

Am I ready for this?

Mary doesn’t say it out loud. She doesn’t turn away from the window. She just lets the question sit beside her.

Not as something to fear—
but as something to understand.

Because for the first time, Mary begins to notice:

Courage doesn’t mean the absence of doubt.

Sometimes, it means carrying the question with you
and continuing on anyway.
