Minutes with Mary

Where a New Day Begins

As the sun rises over the horizon, Mary begins to notice something about beginnings.
Mary and Aunt Eleanor sitting together on a rocky overlook, watching the sun rise over the ocean in a peaceful early morning scene

The world is very still.

Mary sits beside Aunt Eleanor, wrapped in the quiet of the early morning.

The sky is just beginning to change. A thin line of light stretches across the horizon.

Then, slowly—almost without noticing—the sun appears.

It doesn’t rush.

It doesn’t announce itself.

It simply rises.

Mary watches as the light spreads across the water,
touching everything in its path.
For a moment, nothing else seems to matter.

Not the train ride. Not the questions she carried with her. Not even what comes next.

Just this. A beginning.

Mary begins to understand something she hadn’t thought about before:

New things don’t always arrive all at once.

Sometimes, they begin quietly—
like the first light of day.

And if you’re patient enough to watch,
you can see them unfolding, one small moment at a time.
